2023-24 School Year Enrollment: 284 5th-grade students welcomed in Amherst County schools

There were 284 5th-grade students enrolled in Amherst County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 0.7% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

The school that enrolled the largest number of 5th-grade students in the county was Amelon Elementary School.

Within Amherst County schools, the largest number of students were found in 11th-grade, while pre-kindergarten had the least students.

Statewide, Amherst County ranked 62nd in enrollment numbers. It was ranked 61st the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
