Altavista's new Assistant Town Manager

Town of Altavista issued the following announcement on March

The Town of Altavista is pleased to announce the hiring of Matthew Perkins as its new Assistant Town Manager.

Mr. Perkins is currently a Special Projects Manager for the Central Virginia Planning District Commission.

He has an extensive background in Community Development, Planning, and Project Management.

Mr. Perkins has also served as administrator on projects for the Town of Bedford, Amherst County, Appomattox County,

Town of Appomattox, and served as the primary staff member for the Central Virginia Radio Communications Board.

Mayor Mike Mattox said, “Having worked with Matt in the region, I know he has a strong work ethic and many skills.

His love and knowledge for this region will be a strong asset for Altavista.”

Town Manager Gary Shanaberger said, “The selection committee was impressed with Matt’s experience in many

different areas of government, especially community development. Being familiar with Matt’s achievements across

the region makes us excited to have Matt joining our team here in Altavista.”

Mr. Perkins received a Bachelor of Science degree in French from the University of Lynchburg.

He is a Certified FOIA Officer, Inter Governmental Review Designee, and a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Before working at the Central Virginia Planning District Commission, Mr. Perkins worked at the Cutler Law Office as the Office Manager.

He was also the owner/manager of Perkins and Associates, a home renovation company.

Mr. Perkins’ official start date with Altavista is Friday, April 1st, 2022.
