Town of Altavista recently issued the following announcement.
Altavista On Track is excited to announce that commemorative Christmas ornaments will once again be sold this year. The 2021 design features the Vista Theatre, located on Main Street in downtown Altavista. The Vista Theatre was opened in 1936 and became a staple of the community and a fixture on Main Street in Downtown Altavista. It has been closed since December 24, 1989, when a fire broke out inside the theatre. The Town of Altavista purchased the theatre in May 2021 with plans to redevelop the property in the future.
Ornaments are $10 and can be purchased at the Altavista Town Hall located at 510 7th Street. Ornaments can also be purchased online and picked up at Town Hall by visiting www.altavistaontrack.org/events/christmasornaments. For those who did not purchase a 2020 Christmas ornament featuring the Staunton River Memorial Library, they will be on sale for $3.
Proceeds generated will be reinvested back into downtown Altavista to further AOT’s mission of revitalizing the downtown district, fostering economic development and opportunity, and providing leadership to enhance community identity and pride.
