Cost of college went up for all students at Central Virginia Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.4 percent for 2018-19 at Central Virginia Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Virginia residents paid $4,838 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $112 more than the $4,726 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 122.5 percent more than residents this year, or $10,766. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 1.1 percent from $10,654 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Virginia residents. And about 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 72 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 226 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.1 million and 42 students took out student loans totaling more than $214,165.

Including all undergraduates (4,047), 1,587 students used grants or scholarships totaling $5.4 million, and 238 students took out $1.2 million in federal student loans.
