Congressman Bob Good, representing Virginia's 5th district, has made several statements on social media addressing his fellow Republicans and their approach to government spending. The congressman has served in the U.S. Congress since 2021, after replacing Denver Riggleman, and previously served on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors.
On January 28, 2025, Congressman Good urged Republicans in Congress to "courageously and patriotically cut the unconstitutional 'discretionary' spending" to finance defense initiatives such as Donald Trump's Iron Dome. He emphasized the importance of reallocating funds towards necessary defense and homeland investments. "Calling on all REPUBLICANS in Congress to courageously and patriotically cut the unconstitutional “discretionary” spending to pay for @realDonaldTrump’s Iron Dome & other necessary increased Defense & Homeland investments."
Later that day, Good expressed his belief that Republicans should be prepared to risk losing re-election in order to reduce government spending and shrink federal operations. He suggested that voters might reward such actions if they are perceived as courageous efforts to save America. "Republicans must be willing to RISK losing re-election to cut spending & shrink the federal govt. However—voters might actually REWARD them for courageously using this historic opportunity to save America."
On January 31, 2025, Good criticized certain members within his party whom he labeled as self-serving liberals masquerading as Republicans. He accused these individuals of promoting unity by encouraging conservatives to compromise with liberal demands, which he views as a betrayal of their voter base. "These self-serving liberal “republicans” are the loudest voices calling for “unity”, which they define as conservatives betraying their voters and caving to the liberals’ demands."
