CENTRA CEO AMY CARRIER TO SERVE AS 2023 COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER
Amy Carrier, president and CEO of Centra, will serve as Randolph College’s 2023 Commencement speaker.
The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. on May 21 in WildCat Stadium.
“Amy has a long and illustrious career as a leader in the health care sector,” said Randolph President Sue Ott Rowlands. “She brings to Centra years of experience, and she will provide our students with an exemplar of leadership excellence.”
Before joining Centra in September 2021, Carrier served as the market president of Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System and previously as chief operating officer of the Bon Secours Virginia Health System.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in labor and industrial relations, with a focus in occupational sociology, from The Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Carrier spent the first decade of her career in healthcare managing physician practices before going into consulting with Price Waterhouse Coopers and then hospital finance.
“It’s been a winding path with a lot of different experiences in different areas,” she told The Huntziger Group in a January CEO spotlight. “To this day, I still think of myself as a support leader. Having worked my way up through so many different roles, I really have incredible respect for the value that every person on our team brings to the work that we do.”
She has also served in adjunct faculty roles in the Health System Administration Masters’ programs at Georgetown University and The University of Maryland.
Carrier serves on numerous boards, including the Virginia Center for Health Innovation, the Central Virginia Community College Educational Foundation, The Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance, and The Daily Bread.
Co-chair of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association Workforce Steering Committee, she is an advocate for caregivers and encourages a “People First” approach leading with humility and compassion.
Carrier is passionate about the connection between an organization’s culture and its effect on quality and safety.
Centra is a regional nonprofit healthcare system that operates four hospitals in Lynchburg, Farmville, and Bedford among its 50 facilities, employing more than 8,100 people and serving 500,000-plus patients in Central and Southern Virginia.
