Women’s Lacrosse Drops ODAC Opener to Ferrum

The Randolph women’s lacrosse team hosted Ferrum in its first conference game of the season on Wednesday evening at WildCat Stadium. The Panthers won by the score of 14-3.

Ferrum evens its record at 6-6 and is 2-2 in the ODAC. The WildCats are now 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC.

The Panthers led 3-0 with 3:17 remaining in the first quarter. Olivia Richards (Limestone, Tenn./Pinecrest) scored the first of her three goals on the night on a man-up opportunity with 1:16 left in the period. The Panthers scored once more to lead 4-1 at the conclusion of the quarter.

The score remained 4-1 for over half of the second quarter. The WildCats ended the scoring drought with a man-down goal scored by Richards with 7:03 left in the quarter to make it 4-2. The Panthers tacked on three more scores to make it 7-2 at halftime.

Ferrum stayed out ahead of the WildCats in the second half. The Panthers would score four times in the fourth quarter.

Ferrum outshot Randolph 42-19 and in shots on goal 33-12. The Panthers picked up 24 groundballs to the WildCats’ 17.

Richards scored all three of Randolph’s goals. Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) had a team-high seven ground ball pickups and caused five turnovers. Taylor Batty (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) picked up four groundballs and had a career-high 19 saves in goal.

The WildCats travel to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
