Amherst County Public Schools District in Amherst County experienced decline in student enrollment for 2023-24 school year

The only school district in Amherst County suffered declining enrollment in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

There were 3,965 students in Amherst County Public Schools District, 0.6% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Amherst County was steady with the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 53.3% of them were male, and 46.7% were female.

Data also showed that most of the studets were white, representing 63.5% of Amherst County Public Schools District's total enrollment.

Amherst County Public Schools District has a main office in Amherst and is the only school district within Amherst County.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
