Congressman Bob Good from Virginia has introduced two bills aimed at altering current housing policies. The No Discrimination in Housing Act and The Flexibility in Housing Act of 2024 are the final pieces of legislation he is presenting in the 118th Congress.
According to Congressman Good, "Many Americans struggle to even dream of home ownership in the current economy." He criticized the Biden-Harris Administration's housing policies, stating that they prioritize "woke DEI corporations" without addressing housing affordability. Good's bills seek to restore previous housing flexibility and remove DEI policies, which he claims hinder families' pursuit of homeownership.
The No Discrimination in Housing Act targets large corporations such as Blackstone, Vanguard, and Starwood Capital. These companies reportedly use the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) to acquire single-family homes, increasing rents and limiting availability. The bill proposes that entities with DEI initiatives be prohibited from receiving LIHTC benefits.
This bill is cosponsored by Representatives Grothman (R-WI), DesJarlais (R-TN), Burlison (R-MO), Weber (R-TX), and Babin (R-TX).
The Flexibility in Housing Act of 2024 seeks to prevent a Department of Housing and Urban Development rule from being finalized. This rule would require grantees to implement equity-driven housing plans. Instead, Good's bill suggests reverting to a previous approach where states and localities have more control over housing decisions.
Cosponsors for this act include Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Matt Rosendale (R-MT), Glenn Grothman (R-WI), Randy Weber (R-TX), Brian Babin (R-TX), and Ben Cline (R-VA).
Throughout his term, Congressman Good has introduced a total of 51 bills and resolutions.
