There were 42 American Indian students enrolled in Amherst County Public Schools District in the 2023-24 school year, 2.3% less than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Data showed that Amherst County Public Schools District welcomed 3,965 students during the 2023-24 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 1.1% of the student body to be the third least represented ethnicity in the school.

Amherst County Public Schools District roughly covers schools within Amherst County and has a main office in Amherst.

Among the nine schools in Amherst County Public Schools District, Central Elementary School and Amherst County High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2023-24 school year.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools have an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1, slightly better than the national average of 15:1. Minority students, primarily Hispanic and Black, make up 54% of the enrollment, while white students constitute 46%.
