The Center for Digital Government (CDG) has announced the winners of the 2022 Digital Cities Survey, recognizing cities utilizing technology to tackle social challenges, enhance services, strengthen cybersecurity and more. The top 10-ranking cities in each of five population categories and the Future Ready Award winner will be honored during the Digital Cities Awards event on November 17.
Honorees in this year’s Digital Cities Survey from the Center for Digital Government elevated their municipalities’ resilience, while bolstering services and prioritizing engagement with their residents. “Constituents expect more from modern governments. Our Digital Cities survey winners have worked hard to keep the focus on the needs of the communities they serve while implementing technology to improve delivery and execution,” said CDG Vice President Brian Cohen. “We congratulate them for leading the way towards a smarter and more responsive government.”
This year, the City of Lynchburg placed fourth its population category (75,000 – 124,999) This is the 19th consecutive year the City of Lynchburg has been in the national top ten ranking. Among the city’s accomplishments in 2022, the most notable was the strides made in cybersecurity. Decision-making processes for the city’s cybersecurity are always backed by research and collaboration. The IT department leverages the Center for Internet Security’s (CIS) Security Controls version eight framework as a guideline, and the IT security manager performs research and collaborates with the city’s information security team, which consists of several IT staff and the city’s CIO. After reviewing proposed cyber strategies, an implementation plan is discussed. This process has allowed the city to maintain a strong cybersecurity posture.
“It is an honor to receive this recognition in the 2022 Digital Cities Survey,” said Tom Williamson, Chief Information Officer for the City of Lynchburg. “Lynchburg continues to place in the top ten cities for our population category which is a direct reflection of the amazing work done every day by our dedicated technology professionals who work throughout our organization to provide impactful and relevant services to our great city.”
