Swimming Falls to St. Mary’s

 The Sweet Briar swim team (0-1, 0-0 ODAC) fell to the St. Mary's Seahawks (3-0, 0-0 AEC) in the inaugural contest between the two teams today by a score of 359.8 to 239.5.

 

Junior Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) nabbed a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:17.70. In the same race, first-year Dana Kriesien (Sun Valley, Idaho) recorded a time of 2:37.63.

 

The Vixens followed one first-place victory up with a second one thanks to sophomore Mary Catherine Warner's (Virginia Beach, Va.) win in the 50-yard freestyle. Warner earned a time of 27.58 while fellow sophomores Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) and Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) notched times of 32.19 and 34.11, respectively.

 

In the 200-yard IM, senior Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) finished second with a time of 2:35.50. First-year Caroline Lilly (Camden, N.C.) had a career-best time of 3:12.70 in the event.

 

Murphy recorded her second second-place finish of the day in the 100-yard butterfly after completing the race in 1:11.70.

 

Sweet Briar's third victory of the day came in the 100-yard freestyle. Warner sat atop the podium with a season-best time of 1:02.59 while ElzHowe finished fourth with a time of 1:17.09.

 

In her second individual race of the day, Carpenter came second in the 500-yard freestyle after recording a time of 6:04.47.

 

Sophomore Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) had a season-best time of 1:29.19 in the 100-yard breaststroke, her first individual race of the meet. Lilly finished right behind her in fourth.

 

The Vixens wrapped up the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, recording a time of 2:00.61.

 

Highlights

  • Warner's time in the 50-yard freestyle marks another season-best recorded in today's meet.
  • In the 100-yard backstroke, Kriesien finished in third while Moore placed fourth with a season-best time of 1:23.16.
  • Warner tied for the highest score at the meet with 18.
What's Next

The Vixens will hold their first home meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 29, welcoming Guilford and Hollins to the Prothro Natatorium.
