The Randolph and Washington and Lee men's soccer teams faced off against each other on Tuesday evening in the first regular season meeting between the two teams since last season's ODAC semifinals. The Generals scored early in the first half and made it hold up as they won 1-0 over the WildCats.
Randolph falls to 5-6-2 overall on the season and 2-5-1 in the ODAC. W&L improves to 10-1-4 overall and 6-0-2 in the conference.
The Generals were granted a corner kick at 6:52 of the first half. 22 seconds later, Michael Kutsanzira connected on a pass from Samuel Bass to give Washington and Lee the lead.
The WildCats were held to just one shot in the first half. Randolph had four shots in the second half but did not record its first of the period until the 76th minute. The only on goal, by Brian Kuhl (Giessen, Germany/James Monroe), came as time expired.
Overall, W&L led in total shots 19-5 and shots on goal 11-2. Corner kicks were also in the Generals' favor 6-1.
Despite allowing the only goal of the game, Randolph keeper Zach Aylor (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) tied his career high with 10 saves. His counterpart for Washington and Lee, Willi Joseph, finished with one save.
Randolph hosts Eastern Mennonite this coming Saturday. Game time from WildCat Stadium will be at 6:00 p.m.
