Volleyball Falls at Lynchburg 3-1

The Randolph volleyball team took the short trip across town to the campus of the University of Lynchburg to face the Hornets in an ODAC match on Tuesday. The WildCats fought hard all night but fell to Lynchburg 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 17-25, 23-25).

Randolph led 3-1 early on in the first set and was up 10-6 on the Hornets. Lynchburg rallied to take the lead away and go up 15-14. The WildCats recovered to claim its lead back and was up 21-20. Randolph would go on to close out the Hornets with a 4-3 run to take the set and lead the match.

The second set saw the hosts get out to a 5-0 lead. Randolph tied the score twice and then exchanged points until Lynchburg used a 15-5 run to pull away from the 'Cats and claimed the second set to tie the match at 1-1.

The third set had Lynchburg getting out in front 16-5. Randolph closed its deficit to seven at 24-17 but a kill by Abbi Leeper gave the Hornets the set win and a 2-1 lead.

Randolph led 6-3 in the fourth set set until Lynchburg went on a 7-0 run to go ahead 10-6. The WildCats would keep pace with the Hornets as their deficit was never more than five points. Randolph had a late rally at 24-20 as it closed to 24-23 but Leeper again had the deciding kill to give the home team the set and match win.

Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) led with 12 kills and hit .348 on the evening. Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) added 11 kills and five assisted blocks to give her over 100 total blocks for the season. Logan Warren (Chesterfield, Va./Steward School) chipped in nine kills, four assisted blocks, and six digs. Melody Washington (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) put up 19 assists and four digs. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) added 18 assists, seven digs, and four service aces. Madison Daniels (Warrenton, Va./Liberty) had a season-high 21 digs.

Randolph returns home to host Ferrum on Thursday night. Game time from Giles Gymnasium is at 7:00 p.m.
