Field hockey's Brady wins ODAC player of the week award

University of Lynchburg field hockey goalkeeper Kayla Brady had the best week of her collegiate career, helping the Hornets to an unbeaten three-game run over the past five days. Monday afternoon, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference honored the junior as its field hockey player of the week.

Brady and the Hornets started the week Wednesday with a 2-1 road win at Stevenson in which the Millsboro, Del. native made three saves.

Saturday, Brady turned in one of the all-time great goalkeeping performances in Lynchburg field hockey's storied history. The junior saved all 16 shots that came her way in the Hornets' 2-0 win over No. 3-ranked Johns Hopkins. It was the first time an opponent shut out the perennially powerful Blue Jays in nearly four seasons, and Brady's 16 saves established a new career-high.

She and the Hornets the capped off the week with a 2-1 win over Dickinson Sunday afternoon, adding another couple of saves to her tally of 44 on the season. Both that mark and Brady's save percentage of .830 rank second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference this season.

Brady and the Hornets (6-1) will look to extend their win streak to five games Saturday when Lynchburg pays a visit to Centre College.
