Berenguer-Llongueras Reflects on World Lacrosse Experience

Rising senior Cristina Berenguer-Llongueras recently competed with the Spanish National Team at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship which was held earlier this month on the campus of Towson University in Towson, Md. Berenguer-Llongueras was one of 21 players on the team.

Spain competed in Pool D with New Zealand, Ireland, Hong Kong, and Austria. The team went 1-7 overall and 0-4 in pool play. The lone win was over Switzerland 6-5 in overtime.

Berenguer-Llongueras started five of eight games at the midfield position. She recorded one groundball and caused two turnovers.

"I had an awesome experience at the World Lacrosse Championships," said Berenguer-Llongueras. "I will remember a lot of different situations about the Championship. I loved getting to play against so many players from other countries because they have helped me improve a lot. I feel like I have learned so much in just two weeks because I got to focus on lacrosse only. I have also loved going to watch so many games where there were the best lacrosse players in the world."

What is the one moment that Berenguer-Llongueras will remember from her experience? "My favorite moment with the team was before every game when we danced and got ready to play in the locker room," she said.

The host United States defeated Canada 11-8 in the gold medal match and became the first host country to capture the gold medal. This was the United States' first time hosting since 2005.
