Liberty’s Adelyn Ackley, Isis Brooks and Ayanna Johnson were each named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division Women’s Outdoor Track & Field All-State first team squad on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the following Lady Flames earned VaSID All-State second team accolades: Taylen Langin (jumps), Naomi Mojica (throws), Grace Artis (throws) and the 4 x 100 relay squad of Dawn Hilton, Nimeesha Coleman, Brooks and Johnson.
Isis Brooks – 1st Team All-State (Sprints)
A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Brooks capped off her first year as a Lady Flame by becoming the first athlete in program history to reach the NCAA East Preliminary Round women’s 100 quarterfinals. She captured the ASUN 100 dash title in a Liberty and conference-record time of 11.35, while also placing second in the 200 (personal-best 23.50), third in the 4 x 100 and eighth in the 4 x 400.
Adelyn Ackley – 1st Team All-State (Distance)
A native of Mears, Mich., Ackley has now earned VaSID All-State first team honors after all four of her collegiate track & field seasons. Running just the second 10K of her career, Ackley came in 14th at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet, falling just two spots shy of NCAA national qualification. She ran a program-record 33:49.00 in her 10K debut at the Virginia Challenge and lowered the ASUN 5K record to 15:54.98 at the Stanford Invitational.
Ayanna Johnson – 1st Team All-State (Jumps)
A native of New Oxford, Pa., Johnson closed out her collegiate career with a history-making season in the long jump. She placed 19th in the event at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Johnson’s 20-8 leap at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier shattered a program record which had stood since 1984.
Taylen Langin – 2nd Team All-State (Jumps)
A native of Meridian, Idaho, Langin claimed her second consecutive ASUN women’s pole vault championship. Her 13-5 clearance at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier was the best pole vault effort by a Lady Flame in 20 years and ranks No. 2 in program history.
Naomi Mojica – 2nd Team All-State (Throws)
A native of Queretaro, Mexico, Mojica swept the ASUN women’s shot put (season-best 51-11) and hammer (meet-record 195-8) titles. Her shot put crown made Mojica the first Lady Flame ever to win nine conference titles in a single event. As a result, she was voted the ASUN Women’s Most Outstanding Field Performer.
Grace Artis – 2nd Team All-State (Throws)
A native of Roswell, Ga., Artis threw the hammer at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet after placing third in the ASUN women’s hammer final. Her 191-11 effort from the Triton Invitational ranks No. 6 all-time at Liberty.
Dawn Hilton, Nimeesha Coleman, Isis Brooks, Ayanna Johnson – 2nd Team All-State (4 x 100 Relay)
Running together for the first time, the quartet of Hilton, Coleman, Brooks and Johnson teamed up for a third-place ASUN women’s 4 x 100 relay showing. Their time of 45.84 ranks No. 6 all-time for the Lady Flames.
