Second-quarter run sinks women's lacrosse at Roanoke

41

Libby Kennedy and Nicki Santora scored two goals apiece, but it wasn't enough for University of Lynchburg's women's lacrosse team to earn victory Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets fell, 13-5, on the road to Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Roanoke College.

Lynchburg started the game in good form, and Santora's goal at the midway point of the first quarter tied the game at 1-1. Kennedy scored her first with 1:24 left in the opening period brought the score to 3-2 in Roanoke's favor, but the Maroons took over in the second. The hosts scored four unanswered goals in the second 15 minutes, and Roanoke broke the game open after halftime, taking a 10-2 lead with 4:58 left in the third to complete a 7-0 run.

The Hornets battled at the end of the third as Santora and Payton Saville each scored in the final minute to cut the score to 10-4, but that was as close as they could cut it. RC added two more goals early in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Kennedy added her second score on a Santora assist with 10:04 left to play for the Hornets' fifth goal of the game.

Patricia Rogers made 17 saves in goal to lead the Lynchburg defense, while Micah Slacum caused three turnovers and corralled three ground balls.

Lynchburg (2-8, 0-2 ODAC) will look to get back on the winning track at home Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Bridgewater.
