Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance issued the following announcement on March 9
On Thursday, March 24, 2022, the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance will host its second annual Inclusion Summit presented by Liberty University. The summit will assist attendees in creating action steps for moving towards a more inclusive and equitable work culture. Executive leadership, business resource group members, human resources partners, diversity, equity, & inclusion (DE&I) practitioners, and employers wanting to advance their understanding of topics related to DE&I should attend. This year’s theme “More Than a Moment” serves as a reminder that diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts are not a one-time deal but an ongoing process to constantly improve our workplaces for all.
The event’s keynote address, “More Than A Fish”, will be given by Dr. Todd “Bowtie” Jenkins, Founder, and CEO of Bowtie Leadership and Development, Inc. This presentation by Dr. Jenkins is not your ordinary diversity talk. 2020 and 2021 transformed the momentum around DE&I. Many organizations made pledges and promises to change. But, two years on, have they made headway? And if not, why not? Attendees should come ready to be inspired, challenged, and learn how diversity and inclusion will help you drive business and, most important, strategies to help you move from diversity to inclusive behaviors.
Dr. Jenkins has led a global leadership management training and coaching firm with a focus on bringing people of diverse backgrounds together to increase individual and organizational performance. With more than ten years of experience as a senior partner and chief diversity executive, trainer, and strategist, Dr. Jenkins has worked with clients from various non-profits, small businesses, colleges, universities, and industry leaders including Verizon, Coca-Cola, Tyson Foods, Deloitte, Black Hill Energy, CNN, Facebook, IBM, American Airlines, Amazon, Google, Starbucks, and Wal-Mart.
In addition to the keynote address, Dr. Tory L. Lucas, Professor of Law at the School of Law at Liberty University will deliver a message from his recent published paper: “Dissing Ability”.
People with disabilities have historically endured the horrors of exclusion and elimination because America has incessantly fixated on disability without seeing ability. To correct a disabling view of people with disabilities, Professor Tory L. Lucas will prescribe a paradigm shift that permanently redirects the focus from disability to ability. If America achieves this hopeful vision to no longer diss—or disrespect—ability, then people with disabilities will enjoy equal access to equal opportunity.
The event will be held at the Alliance on Thursday, March 24, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 300 Lucado Place in Lynchburg. The Early Bird rates to attend the summit are $99 for Alliance members and $125 for non-members. To take advantage of early bird rates, attendees must register before March 16. After March 16, the rates go up to $119 for Alliance members and $145 for general admission. For more information and to register to attend the Alliance’s Inclusion Summit, please click here.
