Tommy’s 35-year career has come full circle—beginning as a high school teacher and coach to now advising and coaching business owners and their leadership teams to achieve focus, alignment, improved execution and, ultimately, success. The years in between were filled with meaningful experiences, great bosses, lousy bosses, wise mentors and a lifetime of lessons learned. This journey includes the “intrepreneurship” build and launch of a new subsidiary business inside of a large corporation only to have the parent company acquired six months later. While developing survival skills, Tommy persisted through 13 different bosses in 8 years, participated on due diligence and merger integration teams before jumping into an entrepreneurial wealth management practice in 2003. And then in 2010 came a surprise turn when Tommy was recruited to lead Virginia Episcopal School, a regional private boarding-day school out of the Great Recession. During this ten-year turn-around, the team at VES led a brand transformation, market expansion, significant fundraising, oversaw $30+ million in construction projects, a financial and cultural transformation and notable student outcomes. Ultimately, Tommy managed his own successful exit, succession and transition to Financial Designs where he is leveraging the Abundance Business Coaching program to the benefit of business leaders across the mid-Atlantic.
