Sweet Briar College issued the following announcement on Feb. 5
Sophomore Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) and senior Jen Markey (Montpelier, Va.) qualified for regionals at Mary Washington today, bringing the total number of qualifiers on the IHSA team to seven.
Longest won the open flat class to punch her ticket, while Markey finished fifth in open flat.
Also earning winning her class was sophomore Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.) who competed extremely well in novice flat.
Leaving EKG Stables with top-three finishes were junior Sita Moses (Dublin, N.H.), senior Chloe Kerschl (Lexington, Va.), senior Weatherly Ryder (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Paige Kennedy (Purcellville, Va.) who competed in intermediate flat, open flat, limit flat and open fences, respectively.
Highlights
- Previously qualifying for regionals were Kerschl, seniors Abby Bell (Stafford, Va.), Anne Rucker (Midlothian, Va.), Madeline Rucker (Midlothian, Va.) and Moses.
- Kerschl also finished fourth in open fences.
- Sweet Briar secured an additional five top-five finishes thanks to junior Cammee DeFelippo (Loveland, Colo.), sophomore Nina Hugi (Chicago, Ill.) and first-years Zaida Darden (Newark, N.J.) and Julianna McIntyre (Englewood, Fla.).
The Vixens will head to Liberty on Feb. 19 for their last show before regionals.
