Virginia University of Lynchburg Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 19
University of Lynchburg's men's and women's swim teams returned to the pool for another rivalry meet Wednesday evening, splitting a road dual with Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Randolph-Macon.
The Hornet men made history with the program's first-ever victory over the Yellow Jackets, 146-59, while the women dropped a tightly contested 112-93 meet.
Lynchburg's men won nine of the 11 events. The Hornets started off strong with a 3-second victory from Kevin Bennett, Mason Swanner, Parker Hayungs, and Will Kasemeyer in the opening 200-yard medley relay.
Ryan Legge followed with victory in the 1,000 freestyle with a collegiate-best standalone time of 10:28.73, and Hayungs, Ben Myers, and Matt Fields asserted Lynchburg in the meet with a one-two-three sweep of the 200 free.
After the Yellow Jackets took firsts in the 50 free and 200 individual medley, Lynchburg swimmers rattled off six straight event victories to pull away. Myers kicked it off in the 200 butterfly, followed by Chris Jennings in the 100 free, Bennett in the 200 backstroke (Trevor O'Neill and Kellen Campbell cleaned up the sweep in that event as well), Hayungs in the 500 free, and Swanner in the 200 breaststroke.
Legge, Kasemeyer, Miles Fitzgerald, and Jennings put a bow on the win, finishing the 200 free relay in 1:29.73.
The Hornet women piled up four event wins on the evening, highlighted by a pair from Savy Borroughs. The freshman claimed the 50 free in 25.45 and followed with victory in the 100 free (56.07).
Savannah Solenberger claimed top honors in the 200 fly, while Lena Steckler won the 200 back.
Maddie Corbett took home a pair of runner-up finishes (1,000 free, 500 free) for the Hornets, as did Delaney Kennedy (200 IM, 200 breast).
The Hornet swimming program will have one more dual meet to tune up for the 2022 ODAC Championships; that final regular-season contest will be at home Saturday, January 29 against Southern Virginia. Lynchburg will celebrate Senior Day prior to the 11 a.m. meet.
