Central Virginia Community College issued the following announcement on Nov. 8
Nearly 500 students are attending Virginia Western tuition-free this fall thanks to the private-public community partnership that funds the Community College Access Program (CCAP).
Since 2008, public localities and private donors have united in support of CCAP, which is the largest “free college” program at a Virginia community college. CCAP provides up to three years of tuition for high school graduates who meet program requirements, as funding allows. More than 3,400 Roanoke Valley students have participated in the program as of fall 2021.
“We are proud and humbled to join with our dedicated locality partners, businesses, donors, parents and friends to make college possible for so many deserving high school graduates in our entire service area,” said William Farrell, II, Chair of the Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation, a nonprofit affiliated with Virginia Western Community College.
Currently, the Foundation is in pursuit of a $6.5 million goal to fund the program for the next five years. It has unlocked a $250,000 challenge grant to help it reach its ultimate fundraising campaign goals by Dec. 31, 2021. This means that any support given at this time will be matched dollar for dollar. (For more information, contact Philanthropy Director Amanda Mansfield at amansfield@virginiawestern.edu.)
The 2022 CCAP application period opened Oct. 1 and closes Feb. 1, 2022. Families interested in learning more about CCAP are invited to attend upcoming Zoom information sessions, scheduled for midday and evening times through January. Registration is required at virginiawestern.edu/CCAP.
They also can sign up for important CCAP updates about application deadlines, financial aid workshops and more by texting “CCAP2022” to 31996. (Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help; message and data rates apply.)
