University of Lynchburg issued the following announcement on Aug. 25
Poet and actor David Mills will read from his latest work, “Boneyarn,” at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in Hall Campus Center’s Memorial Ballroom. Admission is free and the public is invited, but face coverings are required.
Mills’ visit is the first event in the 2021-22 Thornton Reading series. Each semester, the Richard H. Thornton Endowment brings established writers to the University of Lynchburg. These novelists, poets, playwrights, journalists, essayists, and other writers do a public reading or lecture, and oftentimes meet with students for classes or workshops.
A joint endeavor between the University’s English and history departments, Mills’ reading also is a John M. Turner Lecture in the Humanities.
In addition to “Boneyarn,” Mills has two poetry collections, “The Dream Detective,” a small-press bestseller, and “The Sudden Country,” a finalist for the Main Street Rag Prize. He’s also known for his dramatic portrayals of poet and short-story writer Langston Hughes.
The reading will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing.
