Centra College of Nursing issued the following announcement on Jun. 10.
Centra’s Bedford Memorial Hospital is one of 16 Virginia hospitals awarded the 2021 Patient Safety Excellence Award by Healthgrades. The Patient Safety Excellence Award recognizes hospitals in the top 10% in the nation for patient safety, with the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety events. Hospitals earning these distinctions are deemed among the highest performing in the nation out of more than 4,500 hospitals assessed by Healthgrades.
Bedford Memorial CEO Bill Bass stated, “We strive to be a High Reliable Organization with patient safety as one of our primary objectives. Earning the Patient Safety Excellence Award is validation of our efforts at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital. We are extremely proud of all the Caregivers who helped us be recognized in the top 10% of all hospitals in the nation for safety.” Recognition of Virginia hospitals by Healthgrades is a positive reflection of hospitals’ shared commitment for keeping patients safe and providing exceptional patient care and experience. Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association is proud to support this collaborative work through its Center for Healthcare Excellence, which has focused on patient safety and quality improvement work since its formation in 2015.
