Of the 3,442 people living in Altavista in 2019, 52.3 percent (1,800) were women and 47.7 percent (1,642) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the Lynchburg Reporter.

Females 18 and over outnumbered males in the same age group by a ratio of 1,060-to-934. In the 65 and over age range, there were 435 females and 314 males.
