Louisiana Tech completed a three-game sweep over Liberty with a 9-7 victory at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium on April 26.
The result impacts both teams’ standings in Conference USA, as the Bulldogs improved their record to 26-23 overall and an even 12-12 in conference play. The Lady Flames dropped to 23-26 overall and now hold a conference record of 15-9.
Liberty started strong, taking a 4-0 lead by the third inning with runs from McManus, Jessee, Doerr, and Fonseca. However, Louisiana Tech rallied in the fifth inning by loading the bases and scoring six runs—helped by Gracie Flores’s two-run single and capitalizing on an error—to take a lead they would not relinquish. In the sixth inning, Alexia Carrasquillo narrowed Liberty’s deficit with a three-run home run after Brynn McManus singled and Savannah Jessee walked. Despite this effort, LA Tech added an insurance run with Reagan Marchant’s seventh-inning homer before Bryannah Campos closed out the game for her second win in as many days.
Liberty outhit Louisiana Tech eleven to seven but was unable to convert that advantage into a win. Both teams committed two errors during the contest. Camden Anders took the loss for Liberty after allowing five runs over four-and-a-third innings pitched. For LA Tech, Marchant went two-for-four with three RBI while Flores contributed two hits and two RBI. Carrasquillo led Liberty’s offense going three-for-four—including her team-leading eleventh home run of the season—and tied her career high with four RBI.
Historically, Liberty has dominated this matchup; they are now eleven-and-three all-time against Louisiana Tech in softball and nine-and-three since joining Conference USA prior to the 2024 season. This marks only their second conference series loss out of twenty-five total regular-season CUSA series since entering the league. It is also their first time being swept in such a series since April 2015.
Looking ahead, Liberty will conclude its home schedule on Tuesday when it hosts Virginia at Liberty Softball Stadium for a game set to begin at five p.m.
