Liberty University’s women’s lacrosse team earned a decisive 24–7 victory against Austin Peay University on March 21, continuing their strong start in ASUN Conference play.
The win marks Liberty’s third consecutive victory and improves their conference record to 2-0. The Lady Flames’ offense was highlighted by 12 assists and six woman-up goals, contributing to one of the highest single-game scoring totals in program history.
This matchup was the first-ever meeting between Liberty and Austin Peay, with the Governors competing in their inaugural season as a women’s lacrosse program. Liberty pulled away after halftime, scoring ten goals in the third quarter while limiting Austin Peay to just one. Freshman Sophia Nesci led the Lady Flames with five goals and two assists, matching her performance from the previous game at Lindenwood. Ava Rajala also contributed seven points with four goals and three assists, along with three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Olivia Young added four goals and two assists, while Katie Colavito scored four times and assisted once.
Liberty converted four out of seven free-position attempts during the game. Freshman Ava Thompson scored her first collegiate goal in the fourth quarter. Goalkeeper Rachel Hines played 45 minutes, making four saves on fourteen shots faced.
The Lady Flames held significant advantages throughout the contest, including a 39-16 edge in total shots and a 25-12 lead in shots on goal. They forced thirteen turnovers while committing fifteen themselves. Nesci now leads Liberty with twenty-four goals and thirty-seven points this season, having scored multiple goals in six straight games.
