Liberty University will conclude its regular-season home schedule with a softball game against the University of Virginia on April 28, according to an April 27 announcement. The matchup is set for a 5 p.m. first pitch at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The upcoming game is significant as it marks the final home appearance for Liberty this season, giving fans one last opportunity to see the team play locally before postseason action begins. Both teams are looking to improve their standings within their respective conferences.
The Lady Flames recently secured their 25th win over a nationally-ranked opponent under Head Coach Dot Richardson by defeating No. 13 Virginia Tech, building a lead before holding off a late rally for a 10-9 victory. However, Liberty aims to recover after being swept by Louisiana Tech in its most recent series. Currently tied for third place in Conference USA with a record of 15-9, Liberty has one conference series remaining.
Virginia comes into the contest after ending a six-game losing streak by sweeping North Carolina State over the weekend and now sits sixth in Atlantic Coast Conference standings at 13-10. The two teams have split their season series each of the past three years; earlier this year, Virginia rallied from behind to beat Liberty in Charlottesville with a late comeback.
Several players have contributed significantly for Liberty this season: Alexia Carrasquillo leads the team in both home runs and runs batted in; freshman Dani Lee holds an identical batting average with multiple extra-base hits; Ella Fox leads in runs scored and stolen bases; Savannah Jessee has added power hitting; Brynn McManus and Maci Strickland have also earned weekly conference honors for their performances. On the mound, Camden Anders has been effective during conference play while Danner Allen threw a no-hitter earlier this month.
Looking ahead, both teams will use this matchup as preparation for postseason tournaments as they seek to build momentum heading into crucial games.
