Liberty University announced on Apr. 28 that five of its athletes earned all the Conference USA (CUSA) track and field weekly honors following their performances at the 130th Penn Relays.
The recognition highlights Liberty’s strong showing at a major collegiate event, with student-athletes excelling in both track and field disciplines. The awards showcase individual achievements and underscore the program’s competitive presence within CUSA.
Tahj Brown was named both Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and Men’s Freshman of the Week after qualifying for the men’s 110 hurdles final with a Liberty freshman-record time of 13.81 seconds. Brown, from Nassau, Bahamas, currently ranks third in program history, third in CUSA this season, and tied for eighth among freshmen nationally in his event.
Gilles Ouedraogo received Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors by winning the Penn Relays triple jump championship section on his first attempt with a new outdoor program record of 52-4.5 feet. Ouedraogo is now tied for nineteenth on this season’s NCAA outdoor list. Allie Zealand won Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after breaking both Penn Relays’ longstanding record from 1984 and Liberty’s own decade-old mark in her debut track 5K run with a time of 15:26.38.
Sophie Gonzalez earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her runner-up finish in women’s hammer throw with a best mark of 199-7 feet; she has now claimed this honor two weeks consecutively. Isabella Frattura was recognized as Women’s Freshman of the Week after placing third overall—and first among freshmen—in women’s javelin at Penn Relays with a top throw measuring 156-4 feet.
Looking ahead, Liberty will participate in The Hill City Twilight meet at University of Lynchburg on Saturday and compete again Sunday at Duke Twilight in Durham.
