Liberty University’s Lady Flames softball team secured a 6-5 victory over Florida International University on April 19, rallying in the top of the seventh inning at Felsberg Field at FIU Softball Stadium. The win gave Liberty a two-games-to-one edge in the series.
The game was marked by a late comeback from Liberty, who entered the final inning trailing by one run. With two outs and down to their last strike, Paige Doerr singled to right field, advancing pinch runner Aubry Norris to third base. Dani Lee then delivered an infield single that allowed both Doerr and Norris to score, giving Liberty a decisive lead.
Abigail Findlay earned the win for Liberty after coming on as relief pitcher, while starter Camden Anders returned in the bottom of the seventh to close out the game and record her third save of the season. The Panthers outhit Liberty nine to eight but left nine runners stranded on base compared to eight for Liberty.
Offensively, Doerr went three-for-four with two runs scored including what proved to be the game-winning run. Maci Strickland and Lee each contributed two runs batted in (RBI), while Brynn McManus added two hits and one run scored. For FIU, Leah Clark had three hits and scored twice.
This victory extends Liberty’s strong performance since joining Conference USA before the 2024 season; they have now won 23 out of their last 24 regular-season conference series. The Lady Flames also improved their record in one-run games this year to five wins against just one loss.
Looking ahead, Liberty will travel next to face No. 10 Virginia Tech on Wednesday evening at Tech Softball Park.
