Liberty University’s women’s basketball team has been assigned the No. 5 seed for the upcoming Conference USA (CUSA) Championship. The Lady Flames will begin their tournament run by facing fourth-seeded Sam Houston in the quarterfinals, a repeat matchup from last year’s tournament. The game is scheduled for Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern.
Should Liberty secure a win, they would move on to play in Friday’s first semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Eastern, where they are likely to face Louisiana Tech, the top seed and regular-season champion. The championship game is set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.
All games for both men’s and women’s CUSA tournaments will be held at Propst Arena in Huntsville, Alabama, marking the third consecutive year this venue hosts the event. While most women’s matchups will be broadcast on ESPN+, the championship game will air on CBS Sports Network.
The Lady Flames enter the tournament with a record of 17-12 overall and an 11-7 mark in conference play. Under first-year head coach Alexis Sherard, Liberty has won three straight games and eight of its last ten contests, ending the regular season tied with Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, and Sam Houston for third place in CUSA standings.
This marks the second consecutive year that Liberty faces Sam Houston in the quarterfinal round; last year, Liberty defeated Sam Houston 78-51 as part of their run to claim their first CUSA title. Liberty aims to reach its conference tournament semifinals for a ninth straight season and for the 29th time over three decades.
Historically, Liberty holds a 5-1 record against Sam Houston; however, their only loss came earlier this season when Sam Houston beat them 59-53 at Liberty Arena on January 8 during Liberty’s CUSA home opener.
Ticket packages covering all sessions of both men’s and women’s tournaments are now available through Liberty’s ticket office for $175—a $25 discount compared to purchasing individual tickets separately. Each package includes entry to all nine men’s games and all nine women’s games throughout March 10–14 at Propst Arena. More details can be found at http://www.libertyflames.com/CUSABasketball.
Students from any CUSA school may buy session-based tickets directly at Propst Arena by presenting valid student identification; these tickets are available at half price per session.
“Both the Flames and Lady Flames will look to defend their conference tournament titles at Propst Arena in Huntsville, Ala., March 10-14,” according to event organizers.
