Liberty University’s baseball team secured an 11-7 win over Harvard on Saturday at Worthington Field, extending their winning streak to eight games. The Flames overcame a two-run deficit in the fourth inning and improved their season record to 10-3, while Harvard remains winless at 0-8.
Catcher Tucker Moore hit his first home run of the season in the second inning. In the seventh, center fielder Josh Campos and shortstop Tanner Marsh delivered back-to-back home runs. Campos contributed three RBIs and scored twice during the game.
Liberty’s bullpen played a significant role in the victory. Relievers Josh Swink and Tyler August combined to allow only one unearned run over six innings. Swink earned his first win of the season after pitching four innings with five strikeouts and one walk, giving up two hits. August closed out the final two innings without allowing a run, striking out two batters.
The Flames collected 13 hits compared to Harvard’s nine. Both teams committed two errors each. Five Liberty players—Marsh, Moore, Campos, right fielder Ryan Drumm, and third baseman Jaxon Sorenson—had two hits apiece.
Harvard took an early lead but could not maintain it as Liberty responded with multiple scoring plays across several innings. Outfielder Aidan Colasante hit his first home run of the year for Harvard. Second baseman Tyler Shuman and third baseman Matthew Witkow each had two hits for the Crimson.
“Liberty extends its winning streak to eight games. It is the longest winning streak since an 11-game winning streak Feb. 19-March 8, 2022.”
“Flames pitching continues to rack up the strikeouts. Liberty has struck out 10 or more batters in seven of its last eight games and in each of the last four contests.”
“Campos has recorded two or more hits in each of his last three games and has five on the year.”
“Marsh runs his hitting streak to 10 games with two hits in the game. The shortstop also has reached base safely in every game this season.”
“Grabowski and Sorenson each collected two hits apiece in the game. The duo each extends their hitting streak to seven consecutive games.”
The series between Liberty and Harvard will conclude Sunday at Worthington Field, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
