The Liberty Flames’ baseball game against the New Mexico State Aggies was suspended on May 1 after heavy rain halted play during the top of the fifth inning at Presley Askew Field, with the score tied at 3-3. The game is scheduled to resume tomorrow at 5 p.m. EST/3 p.m. MST, with Liberty set to bat.
The suspension comes as both teams were locked in a close contest. Liberty had trailed by one run entering the fourth inning but took a brief lead after shortstop Tanner Marsh hit an RBI single and right fielder Riley DeCandido contributed a sacrifice fly, putting the Flames ahead 3-2. New Mexico State responded in their half of the fourth, tying the game again with a two-out run.
After weather conditions deteriorated, officials paused play for 47 minutes before deciding to suspend the matchup due to persistent rainfall.
Once this suspended contest concludes tomorrow, both teams are expected to proceed directly into game two of their series.
