Liberty moved into the match play event of the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship after posting its best team score in Round 3, according to an April 29 announcement. The team recorded an 11-under par 277 at Texarkana Country Club, which allowed Liberty to rise from fifth place to a tie for third at the end of stroke play.
This advancement is significant as it secures Liberty’s spot in the next stage of the championship, keeping their hopes alive for another title. Both Liberty and Middle Tennessee State University finished with a total score of 17-under par 847, claiming the final two spots in match play.
The top seed UTEP will face fourth-seeded MTSU, while second-seeded New Mexico State will compete against third-seeded Liberty. The winners from these matches will meet in the afternoon for the championship title, with coverage available on ESPN+.
Liberty is making its third consecutive appearance in this phase of the tournament and aims for its second Conference USA title in three years. In their first season with Conference USA, Liberty won the league title in 2024—marking their eighth conference championship overall.
Freshman Silas Haarer led Wednesday’s performance with a four-under-par round of 68 and tied for eleventh place overall. Michael Lugiano shot a three-under-par round that included an eagle on hole twelve. Senior Josh Ryan was consistent throughout and finished tenth overall at five under par.
Match play events are scheduled to begin Thursday morning. Live statistics can be followed online or through social media accounts dedicated to Liberty golf.
