Congressman John McGuire, who represents Virginia’s 5th congressional district, has recently shared updates on his activities and views through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).

On July 29, 2025, McGuire reflected on his engagement with local veterans, stating: “Recently, I spoke at the Fluvanna Veterans Breakfast. It was great to speak & listen to many veterans that served our Nation with honor. The best thing about serving in Congress is traveling VA-05 & listening to constituents! https://t.co/vF4wD4y2UB”

A day later, on July 30, 2025, McGuire addressed a violent incident involving a local official. He wrote: “What happened to Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler is absolutely tragic & horrifying. Lee is a good man. Violence has no place in our Commonwealth or Nation. Tracy & I are sending our thoughts & prayers to Lee & his family for a full recovery. We should all condemn this”

On July 31, 2025, McGuire commented on Medicaid and its current scope in Virginia: “Medicaid was originally created as a safety net for pregnant woman, low-income seniors, & Americans w/ disabilities. Today, it has ballooned well beyond its original purpose. In VA, a woman committed $1.3 million in health care fraud through Medicaid. The One Big Beautiful https://t.co/2J0uyZQf9x”

Virginia’s Medicaid program provides health coverage for low-income residents including children, pregnant women, elderly adults and people with disabilities.

McGuire’s statements reflect ongoing concerns among some lawmakers about the expansion of Medicaid beyond its initial focus groups and the need for oversight due to instances of fraud within the system.
