Liberty University’s Ike Joy finished in eighth place at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, according to an April 14 announcement from the team. The event was held at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Joy, a graduate student, recorded four birdies and an eagle during his final round to complete the tournament with a score of seven-under-par 206 (68-71-67). This performance marked his lowest 54-hole total of the season and matched his previous eighth-place tie at the Michael A. Marino Classic earlier in March.
Liberty’s team posted its second lowest single-round score of the year with an eight-under-par 276 on Tuesday. The Flames finished eighth overall out of twelve teams with a two-under-par total of 850 (282-292-276). All nine members of Liberty’s roster participated in the event, including five starters and four individuals. Three individual competitors placed inside the top thirty: Silas Haarer tied for fourteenth at four-under-par, while Luke Libbey and Blake Hogan both tied for twenty-ninth with even par scores.
The field included five teams ranked among the top fifty nationally, all of which secured positions within the top five spots. Host Virginia, ranked second nationally, won on its home course with a combined score of thirty-nine under par. Florida State took second place at twenty-six under par; SMU followed in third; Tennessee was fourth; and Charlotte rounded out the top five.
This tournament concluded Liberty’s regular season ahead of their appearance at the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championships scheduled for April 27–30 at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Arkansas.
