Liberty University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 22

Host Liberty won three events on Saturday, the final day of competition at the second annual Brant Tolsma Invitational at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. Calli Doan (women’s mile), Naomi Mojica (women’s shot put) and Brandon Letts (men’s 60) were all victorious as Liberty wrapped up the three-day meet with seven first-place finishes.

Doan’s victory came in meet-record fashion, as her winning mile time of 4:48.42 bettered the 4:51.00 posted by Wake Forest’s Elise Wright a year ago. Doan has now won both of her individual events to open the 2021-22 indoor track & field campaign, as she previously won the women’s 5K at the Liberty Kickoff.

Mojica was Liberty’s lone double event winner on the weekend. She completed a sweep of the women’s throwing events, which also included a weight throw triumph on Friday. Mojica’s shot put victory on Saturday came by more than two feet. Her 49-9 winning effort was one of five attempts which would have won the competition.

Letts, who had placed second in the men’s 200 Friday evening, edged VCU’s JeVon Waller for first place in the 60 final on Saturday, 6.80 to 6.81. Letts has gotten off to a fast start during his first two meets as a Flame, as he ran 6.74 and finished third in the 60 final at last weekend’s Virginia Tech Invitational.

Jose Ballivian was Liberty’s only other top-three finisher on the day. He reached a season-best 57-10.5 in the shot put for a third-place showing.

Both of the Flames’ top pole vaulters recorded season bests and finished fifth in their respective events on Saturday. Taylen Langin cleared 12-11.5 in the women’s competition, while Anders Janes made it over 15-9 on the men’s side.

A number of Liberty men’s athletes impressed while competing unattached on Saturday. Caleb Olson (8:24.50) and Jack Cottrell (8:29.47) went 1-2 in the men’s 3K, while Landon Miller (4:10.55) and Ally Kipchirchir (4:11.91) placed 2-4 in the mile. Luke Lombardi cleared a personal-best 15-3 in the men’s pole vault, while Minnesota transfer Kevin Nedrick was the men’s shot put runner-up (60-1.25).
