The Dallas Baptist Patriots scored four runs in the eighth inning to overcome a three-run deficit and secure a 7-6 win against the Liberty Flames in a Conference USA baseball game on Apr. 18 at Horner Ballpark.
The result is significant as it halts Liberty’s seven-game road winning streak and brings both teams to an even record of 12-5 in conference play. The comeback by Dallas Baptist ties the three-game series at one win each, setting up a decisive final game.
Liberty led 6-3 entering the bottom of the eighth, but Dallas Baptist loaded the bases with a single and two walks. Ryan Martin grounded out to bring home one run before Chayton Krauss hit his eleventh home run of the season, giving Dallas Baptist a one-run lead. Despite moving a runner into scoring position in the ninth, Liberty was unable to score again as Athan Kroll closed out the game for his ninth save.
Liberty starting pitcher Jaxon Lucas limited Dallas Baptist to three runs over six innings, striking out seven without issuing any walks. Offensively, Josh Campos hit his eighth home run for Liberty and collected two hits along with teammates Jordan Jaffe and Tanner Marsh. Krauss led Dallas Baptist with two hits while Max Rose and Landon Underwood also contributed two hits each.
Liberty outhit Dallas Baptist nine to eight but left eleven runners on base compared to just two for their opponents. The Patriots committed both errors recorded during the contest.
Looking ahead, Liberty and Dallas Baptist will play their final game of this series tomorrow at Horner Ballpark.
