Congressman John McGuire marked the anniversary of a significant World War II event and commented on recent legislative developments and local incidents in Virginia through several posts on his official social media account.
On August 15, 2025, McGuire reflected on the end of World War II’s Pacific theater, stating: “Eighty years ago, the Allied forces announced that the war for the Pacific, one of the most brutal conflicts the planet had ever seen, had come to an end. Today, we remember and honor those who made that happen. #VJDay https://t.co/M6u831EXiE” (August 15, 2025).
Later that day, he addressed recent defense policy progress in Congress: “In July, @HASCRepublicans passed the FY26 NDAA out of committee. This NDAA supports @POTUS’ Peace Through Strength agenda by funding next-gen weapons, invests in better pay, healthcare, housing for our military families, and rebuilds American military power, restores deterrence,” (August 15, 2025). The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is an annual piece of legislation in Congress that outlines budgetary and policy priorities for the Department of Defense. Passing out of committee is a key step before potential approval by both chambers and enactment into law.
On August 17, McGuire expressed support for law enforcement after a reported incident: “Tracy and I are keeping the injured deputy and their family in our prayers after this morning’s reckless and tragic incident in Nottoway and Amelia Counties. Thank you to all our men and women in law enforcement for all you do to keep us safe.” (August 17, 2025). Nottoway County and Amelia County are located in central Virginia; such incidents often prompt public officials to issue statements acknowledging law enforcement efforts.
Congressman John McGuire represents constituents from Virginia. His communications often address national defense matters as well as local events affecting his district.
