Congressman John McGuire, who represents Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, marked recent national events and local outreach through a series of posts on his official X account.

On September 1, 2025, McGuire acknowledged the contributions of American workers in a Labor Day message. He wrote, “This is the first Labor Day in a while where American Laborers are coming first. Thank you for building America. Happy Labor Day! https://t.co/CRBEcxtAM7”.

The following day, September 2, 2025, McGuire commemorated the end of World War II by honoring those who served during that era. In his post he stated, “Today, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of #VJDay. We can never repay these servicemembers and the Greatest Generation for their sacrifice and fighting for our freedom. https://t.co/Zfhe16au2b”.

Later on September 2, McGuire announced an upcoming opportunity for constituents to seek assistance with federal agencies at a local event: “Chase City Mobile Office Hours tomorrow. If you are having trouble with a federal agency, please come see us for help https://t.co/fNXqSpUB5h”.

Labor Day is a federal holiday observed annually on the first Monday in September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and workers’ contributions to the country’s development. VJ Day marks Victory over Japan Day—the effective end of World War II—which occurred on September 2, 1945. This year’s commemoration marks eight decades since that historic moment.

Congressman John McGuire has been serving Virginia’s 5th Congressional District since January 2025 after winning election in November 2024.
