Congressman John McGuire posted a series of updates on May 18, 2026, highlighting key events and recognitions related to military service, emergency medical workers, and national security operations.
In a tweet from May 18, McGuire described his participation in welcoming home sailors from the USS Gerald R. Ford alongside Secretary of War, the Chief of Naval Operations, and Representative Jen Kiggans: “This weekend, I had the honor of joining @SecWar, @USNavyCNO, and @RepJenKiggans to welcome home the 4,500 sailors aboard the @CVN78_GRFord. After 295 days at sea, these sailors return home following one of the longest carrier deployments in decades. Their service and skills”.
Later that day, he acknowledged Emergency Medical Services professionals during EMS Week: “Members of Emergency Medical Services dedicate their lives to providing lifesaving care to all Americans, no matter the situation. This week we observe the resilience and courage of the EMS community and recognize the vital role these brave workers play in our healthcare system.”
In an evening post on May 18 regarding counterterrorism efforts against ISIS leadership, McGuire stated: “Another major blow was dealt to ISIS leadership. The elimination of ISIS’s global second-in-command sends a clear message: the United States and our allies will continue to relentlessly target radical terrorists who threaten our nation and our interests abroad. America remains”.
The USS Gerald R. Ford’s deployment marks one of its longest missions since being commissioned as part of ongoing U.S. Navy operations globally (https://www.navy.mil/Resources/Fact-Files/Display-FactFiles/Article/2169838/cvn-78-gerald-r-ford-class-aircraft-carrier-cvn-78). Emergency Medical Services Week is observed annually across the United States to honor paramedics and EMTs for their essential contributions (https://www.naemt.org/events/national-ems-week). Counterterrorism actions against ISIS remain a priority for U.S. defense policy due to ongoing threats posed by terrorist organizations worldwide (https://www.state.gov/reports/country-reports-on-terrorism-2022).
