Congressman John McGuire, who represents Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, has recently posted a series of updates on his social media account covering topics from educational opportunities to national energy policy and a response to recent violence.

On August 26, 2025, McGuire reminded constituents about the approaching deadline for Service Academy applications. He stated, “The deadline for Service Academy Applications is closing in fast!Students interested in attending West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, or the Merchant Marine Academy must submit their full packet to our district office by October 31, 2025.”

Addressing national energy concerns on August 27, 2025, McGuire posted: “Most Americans agree that it’s far more beneficial for the U.S. to become energy independent & dominant, capitalizing on domestic resources rather than relying on foreign energy from countries that do not have our best interests.” This statement reflects ongoing debates within Congress and among policymakers regarding strategies for U.S. energy security and independence.

Later that same day, following reports of violence at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, McGuire expressed condolences and gratitude towards emergency personnel. He wrote: “Tracy and I are heartbroken by the violence at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. Our thoughts and prayers are with the children, families, and all affected. We’re deeply grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their swift actions.”

Congressman John McGuire has served as a member of Congress since January 2023 after winning election to represent Virginia’s 5th Congressional District.
