Congressman John McGuire, representing Virginia’s 5th congressional district, has recently used his social media platform to comment on issues ranging from artificial intelligence policy to national defense and military recognition.
On September 17, 2025, McGuire posted a critique of the current administration’s approach to technology policy, stating: “Due to the weak policies of the Biden administration, including the Green New Deal, we are playing catchup in the AI research & development race. Today, we questioned three AI SME witnesses in @GOPoversight about the importance of AI and what we must do to surpass our rivals.”
The following day, he marked a military anniversary with a message directed at U.S. Air Force personnel: “For the last 78 years, the @usairforce has kept our sky’s safe. Happy Birthday to the Airmen who keep our nation safe and strong.” This statement coincided with the official birthday of the United States Air Force.
Later on September 18, McGuire referenced ongoing legislative efforts related to national security: “In #FY26NDAA America’s national security is restored. @HASCRepublicans and I worked with @POTUS to build a ready, capable, and lethal fighting force!” The FY26 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) sets policy and funding levels for U.S. defense programs each fiscal year.
The remarks reflect ongoing debates within Congress regarding technology competitiveness and defense readiness. The NDAA is an annual piece of legislation that authorizes expenditures for Department of Defense activities and is often seen as a barometer for congressional priorities on national security.
