Bob Good, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 5th district since 2021, has recently expressed his concerns about the national debt and fiscal policies through a series of tweets. Good, who succeeded Denver Riggleman and previously served on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors, shared his views on government spending and leadership.
On May 15, Bob Good tweeted about the national debt: “Course, we’ve never had $37 trillion in debt before, so most R’s have become comfortable with making the wrong kind of history.” This statement reflects his apprehension regarding the growing federal debt and its historical implications.
The following day, May 16, he criticized Republican leadership’s stance on spending cuts by stating: “Republican leadership apparently thinks the American people are dumb enough to believe that spending cuts cannot be enacted for 4 years.” Here, Good questions the narrative surrounding fiscal policy decisions and their timing.
On May 17, Good emphasized the urgency of implementing spending cuts with another tweet: “The spending cuts should go into effect by 2026. Otherwise, it is pretend theater.” This message underscores his belief that timely action is necessary to address fiscal challenges effectively.
Bob Good was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1965 and currently resides in Lynchburg. He graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1988 and again pursued further education at Liberty University in 2010.
