Bob Good, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 5th district, has expressed his concerns over recent legislative developments through a series of tweets. His remarks target the so-called “Big Ugly Bill” and its implications on fiscal policy and climate credits.
On May 13, Bob Good questioned the timeline for the phaseout of climate-related incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). He stated, “So the Big Ugly Bill’s supposed ‘phaseout’ of the IRA’s $1 trillion in climate credits & subsidies doesn’t happen for 4 years?!?! And Republicans are doing this???”.
The following day, May 14, Good criticized conservative media and commentators for their silence regarding spending cuts in the proposed bill. He commented that “The silence from most so-called ‘conservative’ media and pundits on the absence of true spending cuts in the Big Ugly Bill makes them complicit in the failure to address the fiscal crisis.”
On May 15, Good highlighted a significant increase in national debt proposed by Republican lawmakers without support from Democrats. He tweeted: “Republicans are planning to raise the debt limit by a record $5 trillion with no Democrat votes. Think about that.”
Bob Good has been serving Virginia’s 5th District since replacing Denver Riggleman in 2021. Before his tenure in Congress, he served on Campbell County Board of Supervisors from 2016 to 2019.
