Bob Good, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 5th district since 2021, has been vocal on social media about his stance on fiscal policies and government spending. Through a series of tweets, he has expressed concerns over proposed legislative measures which he believes lack substantial spending cuts.

On May 7, 2025, Good questioned the courage of his Republican colleagues by asking “How many R’s will have the courage to vote NO if presented with a Big Ugly Bill without real spending cuts?” This statement reflects his skepticism towards potential fiscal legislation that may not include significant reductions in government expenditure.

Later that day, Good addressed developments regarding the bill’s contents. He stated “The Big Ugly Bill begins to take shape as the Speaker takes Medicaid cuts off the table. Conservatives must refuse to participate in this fiscal betrayal when R’s control all of govt!” This tweet underscores his disapproval of removing Medicaid cuts from consideration and urges conservatives to oppose what he perceives as fiscal irresponsibility.

On May 8, 2025, Good further criticized Republican leadership for their approach to the national debt limit. He tweeted “The ugliest part of the expected Big Ugly Bill is the plan by Republican leadership to raise the debt limit by an unconscionable $5 trillion.” His statement highlights his concern over increasing national debt and emphasizes what he considers an excessive rise in the debt ceiling.

Bob Good was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1965 and resides in Lynchburg. Before serving in Congress, he was part of the Campbell County Board of Supervisors from 2016 to 2019.
