Bob Good, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 5th district since 2021, has recently posted a series of tweets expressing his views on federal government involvement in private business and public spending.
On August 23, 2025, Good wrote: “The federal government in AMERICA should not own or compete with private businesses.”
Shortly after, on the same day, he followed up with another statement regarding government subsidies: “How about just cancel the Intel subsidies instead of government owning a stake in a private business, and unfairly competing against other businesses?”
The following day, Good commented on proposed federal spending: “I look forward to learning what the REPUBLICAN Congress will cut, rather than borrow, to fund the announced $2 billion request from the president to “beautify” DC.”
Good’s remarks reflect ongoing debates over the role of federal investment in private enterprise and discretionary public expenditures. He has served as the representative for Virginia’s 5th District since 2021 after previously serving on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors from 2016 to 2019. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1965, Good currently resides in Lynchburg.
