Bob Good, U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 5th district since 2021, posted a series of statements on social media from September 30 to October 2, 2025, addressing topics related to the military, federal employment, and government shutdowns.

On September 30, Good commended Secretary Hegseth for his stance on military priorities. He wrote, “Well done, Sec. Hegseth. The purpose of the military is to be the most effective fighting machine. Thank you!”

The following day, Good contrasted the priorities of Democrats and Republicans regarding federal employees and voters. On October 1 he stated, “Democrats prioritize 3 million federal bureaucrats, 90% of whom voted for Kamala. Republicans prioritize 300 million American citizens, the majority of whom voted for Trump.”

Addressing concerns about a potential government shutdown on October 2, Good minimized its impact on essential services and called for spending reductions: “Who cares about the “shutdown”? Defense, security & safety-related operations continue. Reduce non-essential staff & spending!”

Good has represented Virginia’s 5th district in Congress since replacing Denver Riggleman in 2021 and previously served on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors from 2016 to 2019. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1965, he currently resides in Lynchburg.
