Bob Good, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 5th district, has recently expressed his views on various fiscal policies and legislative actions through a series of tweets. Good, who replaced Denver Riggleman in 2021, shared his concerns about the national debt and deficit as well as other political issues.
On May 9, 2025, Bob Good questioned the current financial state of the nation by asking “Why do we have $37 trillion in debt, and a $2 trillion annual deficit?” He attributed this situation to certain Republicans’ reluctance to implement specific budget cuts and policy changes such as repealing IRA climate credits, cutting Medicaid, firing federal workers, cutting food stamps, defunding Planned Parenthood, cutting agricultural subsidies, eliminating the Department of Education, and defunding NPR/PBS.
In another tweet posted on May 9, 2025 “But they DO want to eliminate the SALT cap!”, Good criticized some Republicans for their desire to remove the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap.
Further discussing past legislative actions on May 12, 2025 “Further validation for the 16 R’s who voted against increasing SIV’s for tens of thousands of unvetted Afghans in July of 2021 (H.R. 3985 – July 22,2021).” Good referred to a previous vote where several Republican members opposed increasing Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) for Afghan nationals.
Bob Good has served in Congress since 2021 after previously working on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors from 2016 to 2019. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1965 and residing in Lynchburg now at age 57 years old he holds degrees from Liberty University.
